Sneak Peek

Kaiser Permanente and Habitat for Humanity East Bay/Silicon Valley hosted a special preview of Esperanza Place in September 2023.

For more than a year, Kaiser Permanente Diablo has been actively involved in supporting the development of Habitat for Humanity’s Esperanza Place, a 42-unit affordable townhome community designed with health in mind. Understanding the critical need for more affordable housing in our communities, we wanted to showcase Esperanza Place as a model for healthy, sustainable, transit-oriented and affordable housing solutions.

Kaiser Permanente Diablo partnered with Habitat for Humanity to welcome over 70 community and business leaders for a sneak peek of Esperanza Place. Chad Silver, chief operating officer of the Kaiser Permanente Walnut Creek Medical Center, kicked off the event by explaining why we’re working with Habitat for Humanity – to build and support healthier communities. Janice Jensen, Habitat for Humanity East Bay/Silicon Valley’s president and CEO, reiterated the importance of partnerships as well as supportive donors and volunteers to bring projects like Esperanza Place to life. Kaiser Permanente Walnut Creek Medical Center Chief Nurse Executive and Habitat for Humanity East Bay/Silicon Valley Board of Supervisors member Reshea Holman explained why safe, stable and affordable housing is a critical building block for good health. We also welcomed Walnut Creek Mayor Cindy Silva and Contra Costa County District IV Supervisor Ken Carlson, both of whom explained how affordable housing contributes to thriving businesses and communities. They were joined by representatives of national, state, county and city leaders from around the East Bay.
