Get to Know a Future Habitat Homeowner: Shereda

For Shereda, there’s plenty to look forward to about becoming a homeowner at Esperanza Place. With a degree in Finance, the prospect of affordable homeownership was a no-brainer. “I’m spending all this money on rent, and it’s just gone. Whereas if you own something... it’s investing in yourself,” she says.

Beyond building financial security and generational wealth, homeownership will also be an opportunity to plant roots with her 21-year-old daughter, Sherese, who’s been juggling living situations while attending college at San Jose State and working full-time.

Shereda’s future home will be conveniently located just steps from BART and local buses, making the commute to her job in San Francisco more enjoyable. “Honestly, I prefer public transportation. I like to read, and I don’t usually have time. So, I like to read on the train.”

She eagerly anticipates the simple pleasures of having her own space, choosing her wall colors, and having a home base for future adventures. Having moved frequently during her childhood, she places a high value on community, envisioning being involved in the homeowners' association and connecting with her future neighbors.
